Statement on Recent Anti-Semitic Incidents

I had the opportunity to speak in the House to bring attention to and denounce the disturbing anti-Semitic incidents that have affected Canadians just in February.

“On February 6th, a McGill student society representative incited violence against Jewish students, tweeting “punch a Zionist today”.

“On the 19th, mezuzahs were ripped off of door frames and anti-Semitic messages were found in Toronto.

“On the 22nd, a swastika and the words “gas the Jews” were found spray-painted in Hamilton.

“On the 27th, swastikas were found on classroom walls at York University.

“On the 28th, the Calgary Jewish Community Centre received a bomb threat.

“And today, Jewish community centres in London and Toronto were threatened and evacuated.

“This is just some of the hate targeting Jewish Canadians, and we cannot ignore the growing hate targeting Muslim Canadians.

“Condemning these actions is not enough. We must ensure that our legal system is empowered to act against these incidents, and that justice is upheld.”
